Why Host Your Own E-Mail?

As an organization, when should you consider hosting your own email? MailEnable is simple enough to administer in-house, yet powerful enough to manage high volume mail requirements. The following outlines conditions or requirements that make hosting your own email a sensible decision.

If you have a large number of users

If your organization has several hundred staff requiring email, it is sometimes easier to host your own email. It can mean cost savings and greater control over user access to mail services.

If you communicate sensitive or confidential data

If the information being communicated in your organization is of a sensitive, private or highly confidential nature, it is sensible to consider hosting your own email. All web hosting companies will guarantee the security and privacy of your email data and communications, however, there may be some additional peace of mind in having your data under your control.

If you have onsite I.T. staff/expertise

If your organization has its own onsite IT staff or department that can administer the mail server then hosting your own mail is a feasible option, as you will have the expertise on site and available when needed.

If you need to control costs

Hosting your own mail means that you do not have to pay ongoing fees to a hosting company, or be charged extra when you add more users or require additional features.

If you need to integrate with other software

What you will need to host your own email...

To host your own internet based email server, you will require the following.

• A good and stable internet connection (e.g. ADSL, T1, Cable)
• A public IP address (preferably a static IP address)
• A registered domain name (e.g. mailenable.com)
• A web server, Microsoft IIS 5.0 or greater, if you wish to run web mail/web administration
• Hardware with at least the following specifications
• A copy of MailEnable Standard, Professional or Enterprise Edition installed on your server (see our Downloads page)
